Athens is often used as a pit stop on a trip to the Greek Islands, but it is well-worth a visit on its own. Vibrant and modern, Athens is also an ancient city; the birthplace of western civilisation and home to some of the world’s most important archaeological sites.

Capital of Greece, Athens is still dominated by 5th-century BC landmarks, including the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple. The Acropolis Museum, along with the National Archaeological Museum, preserves sculptures, vases, jewellery and more from Ancient Greece.
